knit a teddy bear pattern

Let's start with some basic patterns. Knitting is worked in rounds (the equivalent of rows in flat knitting) in a spiral.

It is also best to use the basic knitting stitches, just knit and purl until you are use to knitting. If they are not secured, the loops of a knitted course will come undone when their yarn is pulled; this is known as ripping out or unravelling knitting. Repeat the whole procedure till you transfer all stitches from left needle to right needle.

In turn, the red loops secure the white loops just below them, which in turn secure the loops below them, and so on. A key factor in knitting is stitch definition, corresponding to how well complicated stitch patterns can be seen when made from a given yarn. In the more complex double knitting, two or more yarns alternate repeatedly within one row and all the yarns must be carried along the row, as seen in Fair Isle sweaters.

The two possible twists of yarn. These fiber types are chemically different, corresponding to proteins, carbohydrates and synthetic polymers, respectively.
