Anyone who has anything to do with knitting will know the importance of knitting yarns. Originally, circular knitting was done using a set of four or five double-pointed knitting needles.
To form a "knit stitch" you use one needle to pull a loop of yarn through the existing stitch on the other needle. Knitting teaches you to let go of your aspirations of perfection. The pattern is knit first stitch, purl next stitch and repeat until the row is knit.
New wales can be begun from any of the edges of a knitted fabric; this is known as picking up stitches and is the basis for entrelac, in which the wales run perpendicular to one another in a checkerboard pattern. Another problem is that too much knitting may lead to hand and wrist troubles; for this, special stress-relieving gloves are available. Knitting yarns do not have to be expensive.
Brainstorm, and figure out which way of teaching would be best for you and your students! You may also want to consider finding a local knitting group or meeting online others who share your hobby.
